Thoughts on a Saturday Morning

Lately, every time we get on our moto or quad to go anywhere in town, we feel like we need to wear something over our eyes, nose and mouth to protect them from the dirt in the air. It is SO dusty! Clouds of dust whip around here on the island from the motos on the streets and from the breeze that comes with dry season. Sometimes, from our house up the mountain, we can look down over the city and see clouds of dust rising up. Everything is coated in a layer of dust.

We all go through seasons. Some seasons are dry. Dust continues to pile up and everything we do seems to stir up the dust and cloud our vision. We are weary, ready for it to pass, but there just seems to be so much dust. Too much to get rid of. I can wipe down my counters and an hour later, there is another layer of dust settling.

But then, in one night, a heavy rainfall comes and saturates the ground again. So effortlessly, yet so powerful. In the morning, all things are clear, clean. There is no dust in the air clouding our vision. Everyone is smiling, breathing easier. Joy has returned. Everything is fresh.

Just like the dust that settles on my counters, dust settles into our lives. Things that we know to be unclean seem to become our "normal." We learn to live with it. When we try to clean up the dust on our own, in just a little while, it settles back down into that familiar place.

But, don't lose hope. There is someone who has the power to clean that dust. The same power that conquered the grave lives in me! Christ can take that dust and wash it away with life giving water.

Jesus, Your name is POWER, breath and LIVING WATER, such a marvelous mystery!
